Shanti Education Initiative Nepal (SEI Nepal)

Founded in 2010, SEI Nepal  works in reconstructing/renovating public schools in rural parts of Nepal. It strives to improve the standard of education in rural Nepal holistically by providing infrastructure support, resources and materials, and teacher training. We have a committed team of volunteers, staffs and board members, many of whom have been with us since the beginning.

Shanti Education Initiative Nepal (SEI Nepal), is a non-profit organization registered in the District Administration Office (499/067/68), Kathmandu and affiliated with Social Welfare Council (31278).

SEI Nepal has been involved in three major areas – infrastructural support, teacher training and volunteers mobilization in public schools of Nepal. Prior to the earthquakes of 2015, we had supported the infrastructural development for more than 20 schools of Sindhupalchowk, Kavrepalanchok, Dolakha, Lalitpur and Kathmandu districts. SEI Nepal has trained more than 400 teachers from 92 different schools in Lalitpur and Sindhupalchowk districts. We have also mobilized more than 30 national and international volunteers to work at our partner schools for at least a month.

 Project Context

We are in a gradual process of rebuilding our lives back to normalcy after the devastating earthquakes that hit Nepal in April and May 2015. After witnessing such destruction, SEI Nepal felt restoring the schools at first is the prime action to strengthen the community. So, SEI Nepal planned to construct earthquake resilient permanent structures by utilizing the existing materials in the affected schools and incorporating additional ones to enable the work more efficiently. In the first phase, we embarked on the “Post Earthquake Reconstruction/Renovation Program of Schools 2015/16”. We have been working to reconstruct/renovate 22 school buildings of Lalitpur, Kathmandu, Dolakha and Kavre districts out of which 10 projects have been completed and other 12 projects are ongoing. Besides these we have helped to replace leaky roofs, fix toilets, install new furniture and provide white boards at many schools that had fallen into disrepair and put students at risk.

 Specialized Teacher Training

We have developed our own training curriculum focused on early childhood education and English-language instruction with the help our trainers, educationist, consultants and advisors. Otherwise, most teachers receive inadequate government-sponsored training or none at all.

Mobilizing volunteers

We are mobilizing national and international volunteers in different schools we have partnered with to help them improve their English speaking environment and to promote extra-curricular activities.

All to promote quality education in rural Nepal

We believe every individual has their right to quality education. So, we all are working to together to bring the marginal group in mainstream with the quality education. For this, we have devoted our concern to remote places of Nepal to reach them. We are a tax deductible registered nonprofit organization, so all donations you give for education are tax deductible which goes to the community in cent percent because we’re run entirely by volunteers.
