Teacher Training

We began with a mission to build a school in an impoverished village in Nepal. Now we have evolved into an organization that strives to provide better educational opportunities to children all around Nepal. As part of this evolved mission, we started providing specialized early childhood teacher training to teachers in community schools where we have operated.

With a long term commitment in improving the hardware and software infrastructure of the public education system, we have developed a teacher training module tailored for the primary schools. The training aims to train public school teachers to enhance their capacity in teaching the students in a child friendly environment using the local context and the resources in the English language.

The training is mainly for preschool and primary teachers. However, we involve principals and parents in the training to raise awareness about the importance of a good education in a child’s future. We also involve the local government education agencies in every stage of our program to enhance efficiency and thwart duplication of efforts.

The primary objectives our training programs are:

  • To equip local schools and primary teachers with conceptual and practical knowledge about how to operate and manage an early childhood development class in a responsible, effective and child friendly manner
  • To equip local schools and primary teachers with skills and knowledge about development of young children, teaching techniques and methods and making appropriate use of the local context and the local resources
  • To empower parents with knowledge and understanding of the developmental stages of their young children and to give them some tools to guide them for bringing up their children in a healthy environment

The effectiveness of the training module has been tested and approved in a public school in Kathmandu valley. The training includes theoretical and practical courses for the participating teachers. The training has been designed to incorporate at least a visit to every school by the trainer after each training phase has been completed.

Teacher Trainers

We have a group of dedicated and qualified individuals to impart the training. They are:

Mabindra Regmi

We owe the concept of our teacher training to Mabindra, one of our founder members, who designed a curriculum for teaching in English language/medium at public schools while he was doing his Master in Education from the Kathmandu University. He piloted the curriculum for a year in 2011 at Vishwamitra Ganesh Secondary School, Lubhu, Lalitpur, refined it and made it ready for scaling up at other schools. We have implemented this training in more than 70 schools since then and the feedback has been very positive from all the stakeholders. He also orients our trainers before they go the schools to impart the training.
